A hardwired network isn't always practical or cost effective.
Take for example a company that leases space. To install a
hardwired network, the have to obtain permission to run the
wires through the walls and the ceilings. Then they have to
hire someone to install the wiring and test it to standards
while they try to do business around the disruptions, inconvenience
and mess. And if they move, they have to leave the wiring
investment behind.
If a wireless network is installed it is a matter of installing
wireless Network Interface Cards in the PCs or attaching a
wireless USB transceiver. Then installing the necessary access
points to give everyone access to the internet connection
and file servers. Depending on the size of the network the
access points might not even be necessary because today's
wireless devices can work in a peer to peer fashion.
Adding users in a wired network may mean running new wire.
In a wireless network it's as easy as adding on the wireless
device to the new PC and turning it on.
